Local gymnast wins big at state meet

Men, women gymnasts advanced to regional championships in Nevada

In the level eight, nine and 10 Women’s Optional State Gymnastics Championships held in Tempe March 24-25, Carter’s Gym­nastics Academy Level 10 gymnast Shelby Edwards claimed the 1st place all around title, naming her State Champion in her age division. Ms. Edwards took first place on vault, bars and beam and second place on floor. Ms. Edwards was recently awarded a full-ride athletic scholarship to the Univer­sity of Arizona.

In the level nine competition, Carter’s gymnast Shayna Edson took the All Around State Championship title in her age division. She also took first on floor, second on vault and second on bars and third on beam.

Kiana Villa took fourth place all-around in her age division, as well as first on bars, third on floor, fifth on vault and sixth on beam.

Ms. Edwards, Ms. Edson and Ms. Villa advanced to the Regional Championships in Las Vegas, held April 14-15.

In the level seven competition, Jessica Broderick took the all-around title in her age division. She also took first place on beam, second place on vault and bars and third place on floor.

Teammate Abigail Fawcett took second place in the all around. She also placed sec­ond on bars, third on floor, sixth on beam and seventh on vault.

Carter’s Gymnastics level four and five men’s teams competed in the Arizona Men’s State Gymnastic’s Championships held March 10-11 at Basha High School in Chandler. The Carter men took home a total of 31 medals in the state meet.

Level four team members Elijio Ledes­ma and his brother, Luciano Ledesma, both took first place on the rings in their age divi­sions, naming them both State Rings Cham­pion. Elijio also took sixth place on floor, pommel horse and vault. Luciano took home a total of six medals, including fourth on pommel horse and sixth on vault, high bar, floor and all-around.

Tres Walker took home the floor cham­pionship title. He also took seventh place on rings and high bar and sixth place all­around. Teammate Ryland Wilkins took home a total of seven medals, including third on parallel bars, fourth on rings, fifth on floor, seventh on pommel horse and high bar, eigth on vault and sixth place all­around.

Other team members competing and receiving awards were Nate Broderick, tak­ing fourth on rings, fifth on pommel horse, eighth on parallel bars and floor and fifth all-around; Broq Robinson, winning second on rings, fifth on parallel bars and sixth all­around; and Aidan Leoni-Rook.

In the level five competition, Trey Crook took second place on high bar and team­mate Brian Carter took home the fifth place award on floor. Crook’s and Carter’s all­around scores qualified both men for the Regional Gymnastics Championships to be held April 14-15 in Reno, Nev. Also compet­ing for the level five team was Avery John­son.

The Carter’s women’s teams are coached by owners and head coaches Jack and Erin Carter and Master Coach Zena Stewart. The Carter’s men’s teams are coached by Coach York Parris, who is the director of the men’s program and assistant coach of the wom­en’s teams.

Carter’s Gymnastics Academy boasts the Olympic and World Class Coaches and award-winning choreography team of Jack and Erin Carter, who are the owners and head-coaches of the academy. Over the years, Jack Carter has coached many Olym­pic, World and National Team Members. The Carter’s have produced over 85 full­scholarship winners to accredited colleges and universities, including Denver, Wash­ington, UCLA and Stanford.

Carter’s Gymnastics Academy is located in Mesa on Pecos Road between Power and Ellsworth, and provides classes for all age groups and skill levels from Mommy/ Daddy and Me to Olympic Level Team competi­tion.
